A light-painted image on 4X5 transparency film for a story about the new and anonymous online dating.
I made this image well before Photoshop. It is the combination on one sheet of film of the standard studio image of the model. Then, after sketching out the "date" and table and chairs on the camera's ground glass, I traced each part of the sketch with a small pen light covered in the approriate colored filter or gel. I had a poloroid back for my Sinar camera so we could do some testing but that proved imprecise. Ultimately, I had to shoot a few sheets, spend about an hour developing the film and then shoot more and develop more until I got the image we wanted. It took a day. Today you could make this picture with Photoshop in 15 minutes! |
