A young man is illuminated by candlelight and surrounded by the traditional flowers of cockscomb and cempasúchil at the old cemetery at Xoxocotlán, Oaxaca, Mexico, during Day of the Dead celebrations.
Catherine and I have long been interested in folk art -- Mexican, Central and South American and Southwestern. One of our keen interests has been on the Mexican celebrations and art around Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of The Dead. For our 10th anniversary in 1998, we took the week around these celebrations to spend in Oaxaca City. It was extrodinary. This collection of pictures is from that trip.
